Ace is a new arrival, but he will undoubtedly be very invested in participating in the city's defense. In his canon, he's a cadet on the services of the Vermillion Bird, which, freely speaking, is an equivalent of the Crystal of Fire of Aqures Ixen. In fact, his first real mission takes place during the imperial invasion of his homeland... yeah. That said, the circumstances and the timing of the assault will lead him to believe that the survival of the kingdom is closely tied to his own fate, so he will not hesitate to rush into the battle.
But then, there's this little thing. His jobs are stuck at the initial levels, meaning that as far as battle power goes, he is completely useless. Between Gambler and Chocobo Knight, he will probably decide on using the latter, but there is not much he can do without magic and stronger skills. He is, however, an agile soldier well-versed in battle tactics, making him a valuable asset should he become a part of a team, as he's not likely to survive on his own.
Normally, he would be openly participating in the offense, but in this case, he could perhaps be of use in operations that are more focused on strategy rather than actual attack power. Obviously, he's not a part of any organization yet, so anything goes. Let me know if you have any ideas. o/
