Event: I Will Face Myself

Following the meeting with the Sage back in September, the Moogles in Palitutu's Laboratory have been working hard to perfect the means through which the Heroes of Lights' Calamity Selves can be drawn out. And now it is ready. The risks are considerable but conquering their dark halves will allow them to become immunized to the Calamity's ill effects.

Feel free to use this post to ask questions. Likewise, start your own threads here to plot what you shall be doing and the like! There shall be no event log for this, so please make your owns if you plan on having Calamity Self confrontations!

What is the Calamity Self?
The Calamity Self is the fragment of the Calamity contained within every Hero of Light. This fragment has been feeding on every rejected thought, every denial, and every repressed emotion found in the Hero of Light’s psyche. What the Heroes of Light know should be done but refused to even think about due to their ethics, what they berate themselves for having such thoughts about, what they are but refuse to acknowledge—This is what their Calamity Selves are.

In Jungian psychology, all of these things are known as the Shadow. It is one of the five aspects of the psyche, alongside the Self, Persona, Anima and Animus.

- The Self
That is what you identify as. However because it is what you identify as being, it doesn’t mean it is you. That’s only what you choose to identify as and ultimately it is only a fraction of your real self.

- The Persona
These are the masks you use to confront various situations. One common and easy to understand example is how people speak of their “online persona” versus their “rl persona.” These are two masks you use to face different situations. They are not you—They are what you project and want others to see you as being. Any individual has countless personas, a persona when you speak with friends, one when you speak with your superiors, one when you speak with family—And so on.

- The Shadow
The Shadow is what we repress and refuse to acknowledge, our real thoughts and desires. The Shadow expresses itself in a variety of ways—Dreams are an expression of the Shadow, and this is why we rarely remember our dreams or have difficulties remembering all the details. Our Self (or Super-Ego in Freudian terms) blocks us from remembering them. When you have a slip of the tongue and what you meant to say takes on a totally different meaning? That’s the Shadow. When you ‘accidentally’ break the flower vase the stepfather you despise offered you? That wasn’t an accident, that was the Shadow too.

The Shadow isn’t all negative, as it is the source of our creativity and the door to our true selves. A lot of geniuses in history are thought to be people who understood and conquered their Shadows. However there is a risk in exploring the darkest parts of your psyche. If you fail to understand and conquer your Shadow, then your Shadow may conquer you. And this leads to the destruction of the individual.

- The Anima and The Animus
This isn’t as important for the event—But these basically comprise the true Self that can only be accessed by understanding and conquering your Shadow first. They’re the most complex parts of the human psyche. According to Jung, the Anima takes the form of a feminine inner personality for men whereas the Animus takes the form of a masculine inner personality for women. The more a man tries to behave as what society defines as masculine, the more complex and developed his Anima. Likewise, the more a woman tries to behave as what society defines as feminine, the more complex and developed her Animus.

These concepts are not as important as the Shadow for the Event; but it is good to keep them in mind as an objective to look forward to once the Shadow conquered.

How do we face it?
The Calamity Self can be faced by having Moogles manipulate your Crystal in Palitutu’s Laboratory, following the Sage’s instructions. It will look absolutely identical to your character, with only one difference: it’ll have purple eyes. Your character can face their Calamity Self alone, but odds are they will die if they do so… Or worse.

You will have access to only one Job while the Calamity Self is drawn out. On its end, it will be equipped with the Calamity Knight Job:

CALAMITY KNIGHT

Initial Narayana's Curse Turns into a Calamity Monster (requires Possession first).

This Job can never be accessed outside of the Shadow event. It is unique to the Calamity Selves, certain Avatars, and those who had powers bestowed upon them by the Avatars. The Job shown here is slightly different from the one certain Avatars use (they can possess anyone who has a fragment of the Calamity within them, unlike Calamity Selves who can only possess their Hero of Light if they’re in denial).

What then, once it is Summoned?
The Calamity Self will be very happy to lay out on the table all of these things you do not want anyone to hear or refuse to acknowledge. How it goes however, is something we cannot explain. Indeed, each Calamity Self is unique. One might decide to go all out and try to kill everyone minutes after being summoned. Another might just quietly speak. Another may look around for coffee before starting the show. It all depends on what your character’s Shadow is.

Simply defeating the Calamity Self in battle won’t do anything. It’ll keep respawning without any end till either the Hero of Light dies or the Moogle ceases the summoning process. Therefore, there are two possible outcomes:

If: Your Character Rejects Their Calamity Self
At this point, they’ve lost and rather than conquer their Calamity Self, their Calamity Self will overtake them. That means the “Shadow” will disappear and your character will become the Calamity Self entirely. At this point the Calamity Self will have access to both Calamity Knight and the Job your character had equipped before being overtaken. At that point, stopping the summoning won’t work.

The only way to “free” the overtaken character is for the friends of the overtaken character to defeat the Calamity Self. They may want to be careful though, since the Calamity Self will be using the character’s actual body. Killing it will result in the character’s permanent death.

Once defeated, the Hero of Light and the Calamity Self will split once again. This, however, won’t mean a thing if the Hero of Light rejects the Calamity Self once more. Should they reject their Calamity Self a second time, they’ll be taken over, again.

If: Your Character Accepts Their Calamity Self
That’s the desired outcome and at this point, the Calamity Self will disappear of its own accord. Nothing particular will happen, but your character will then be immune to the adverse effects of the calamity. It might not sound like much of a reward, but it will be in Endgame. One practical example is they’ll be able to grab a Black Crystal without suffering any ill effect.

Keep in mind, this has to be genuine. If your character pretends to accept just to be rid of the burden, that’ll count as a rejection. No matter how good you are at lying, the Calamity Self will know when its Hero of Light isn't telling the truth.

Consequences
Your character will no longer be able to go into Crystal Stasis, even if you go on Hiatus. That means you may have to put them on auto-pilot when hiatusing from now on.

Conquering your Shadow Self isn’t a permanent thing. If your character accepts their Shadow Self, but the next month they start denying it again, it’ll all be cancelled and they’ll have to re-do this all over again. The Shadow is a part of every single one of us until the end of our lives—Not something that’s there for the time of an Event. Dropped characters who went through this Event will hence be considered to have lost grasp of their Shadow Self and will go in Crystal Stasis.

• Double Exp
Anyone participating in this event during the month of November will have double experience for the month. Practically speaking, this means their equipped Jobs will progress two months instead of one!

Plotting for Cloud

[personal profile] neverfirstclass 2016-11-09 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
So who wants to be around while Cloud confronts himself? And who wants him along with them for theirs?

He's been having a whole self discovery arc up to this point, but there's still the small chance he might try to reject himself the first time. There's the concerns about whether or not his and Sephiroth's future can be changed, and a bit of shame about wanting to stay in this world, or more specifically running from the bad things in his future. That and his fear that even in this world he can't escape being a puppet. It might also accuse him of abandoning Tifa to a degree.

I wish that thread with him and Future Cloud would get rolling again :\
But hey, at least he's mostly over being compared to his future self.

Plotting for Tazendra

[personal profile] fearlessherosheart 2016-11-09 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This one is going to be a knock-down drag out fight, with a risk of death. (Tazendra's Shadow still likes a challenge, so would avoid insta-kills, but sees no reason to hold back. Hell, she'd probably beat Tazendra to within an inch of her life just for funsies before any possession if Tazendra can't accept her Shadow.)

Tazendra's Shadow may have a complex relationship with violence: Tazendra accepts that she is a violent person and that it would be bad for society if she started a fight every time she was bored or frustrated or angry. On the other hand, she avoids seeking non-violent solutions, even if they might better match her personal sense of honor or her goals. (And pointing this out will go over real well.) Since Tazendra is unlikely to believe 'screw all the worlds as long as I can fight everything', she needs to accept that she can't rely on others to decide if the non-violent solution is better and accept the fact she either needs to be honorable or bloodthirsty, not both.

That probably means Tazendra has to stop fighting her Shadow, even if she is going to desperately want to. (Not just because it pisses her off, but because if the challenge.)

(Also add in some fantasy racism/classism. Tazendra's home Empire is not good for baseline humans or peasants, and she has some framework set up to rationalize why baseline humans are fine here.)

Nanami is pretty clearly afraid of her Shadow and will need some help even conquering that. Which might mean going to help others with theirs.

I'd like her to build up the courage to do so, but that would take work and effort. (Nanami hides even more from others than from her self.)

Plotting for Ales Mansay

[personal profile] umslay 2016-11-09 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll need help working out the details of his Shadow, but feel free to talk on Plurk or Discord. But to summarize this character from a dumb canon:

The Glade of Dreams was created by Polokus "The Bubble Dreamer", who sits around in the middle of the forest and is just...there. Being wise and lazy. And if the nightmares he unintentionally creates or pirates or overlords try to attack, he leaves the duty of saving the world to the resident heroes. Ales started out as a neutral NPC who helped out the heroes at a price. At the end of the first game, the villain is defeated, but Ales couldn't help but admire his sense of style and the intensity he put into conquering the Glade.

Having grown up a disappointment to his magical race, Ales turned to machinery and merchantry. His only known friend was Betilla the fairy guardian of the forest (who is really important and is known to be kind), but as time went on and more villains arrived without Polokus doing anything, he grew bitter. Why was everyone lazy? Was it the over-reliance on magic? The uncritical praise of Polokus, of whom the popular opinion was that he could do no wrong?

His solution: take a page from the villain of the first game and take over the world. Overthrow Polokus, start a rule of order and machinery. He was willing to sever his ties with Betilla and have his henchmen kidnap and imprison her. He played the heroes similarly to how Palitutu played the Heroes: by presenting himself as a helpful if snarky NPC who was totally not using the collectibles given to him for a nefarious purpose. He justified building an airship army by saying it was for the greater good. He could let his mechas kill the heroes because they were preventing much-needed change.

He failed, of course, but the only thing he regrets is not being able to follow through. The Glade is just the same as before.

Ales knows that he is ruthless, but he feels he is completely justified in it, avoiding the reality that his methods in making the world a better place paints him as a worse substitute. He'll ignore that he is at any fault and tells himself that he is sole bastion of sanity in his world. His grievances are not wrong; there are legitimate issues he brings up, but the way he went about addressing them...not so much.

However, he does have difficulty in forming bonds as, in Harry Potter terms, he is a Squib in a race of ultra-magical creatures. Bullying got him to resent a lot of society in general, and it's possible that he wants to be considered important and cool because of it. Perhaps all he wants is to do something that will lead him to being respected.

Ales wants to be among the first to confront his Shadow, but he's going to have a hard time accepting it once he realizes what it's like.

Plotting for Sheena

[personal profile] ninjainviolet 2016-11-09 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Sheena is a hot-head, yes. That's not a side of her that she hides. The part she does hide is her softer side, that side that can cause her to get hurt. That side of her that needs to ask for help from time to time.

She also has a double standard: it's okay for others to make mistakes and to have traumatic accidents happen, but not her. Things are her fault, and people will see it goes back to when she was a child and a quarter of her village died during a tragic accident.

She also hides the fact she was once an assassin. Yes, she once killed for pay for her King to restore her village's honor. That's how she met her friends back home. She doesn't like killing, and deciding to let Palitutu die at one point did not sit too well with her.

In short...she's a mess.

This is open to anyone, although having her close CR find these things out will have a greater impact upon her.

I'm also wanting to do this as soon as possible for anyone up for it!

Plotting for Ira

[personal profile] acceptedoblivion 2016-11-09 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ira has never made it a secret that he doesn't view himself as a "hero", because he knows what all he has done would be viewed by most as villainous behavior. He, however, saw it as necessary to right the wrongs of a world that would see all others consumed to continue a mad child's delusions of godhood.

Ira's Calamity Self will reflect this in a cold and calculating manner, as Ira has always repressed that, after the events that led to his death and the subsequent resurrection within the Tower of Animus, he is empty inside. That he only started to truly feel anything beyond those emotions tied to darkness (anger, hate, jealousy, and sadness) recently. That he has no hope, only goals that must be met. That he was willing to fulfill Kalki's plan of becoming one with the Calamity.

But how can he, when he was nothing more than a puppet all along? He's never known anything beyond being a tool at best. First to Vexen, who made him specifically to stop Sora. Then to his own perceived friend Naminé, who had rewritten his memories and shattered his own heart, and then the Admins... They even assigned him work on the doll floor, not to mention drugged him so much that he was complicit in constantly cleaning up after Ruana and Zo's toys!

He'll always be a nameless and numberless replica, no matter how hard he clings to the name and alias he'd given himself. A puppet whose heart is filled with false memories of happiness, and true memories of soul-crushing despair and nothingness. He won't mind the Shadow, who retains their pride, to take over, right? After all, it's still him. What's a tenth death compared to all the others he's experienced?

I wrote more about his Shadow and the persona he projects then I care to admit, but I don't want to leave a five-page essay on this just yet.

This will be open to anyone who wishes to join him because otherwise he'd rather go it alone like an idiot, for if any find out why he's so adamant to overcome this part of him, it will impact him greatly. Even more so if they know him but he never told them about his past. (Especially the dying nine times thing.)

Re: Plotting for Ira

Ales will also jump to facing his Shadow, so he can be there. He has the opposite problem: he knows that some people will view his previous actions as villainous, but he still sees himself as a hero.

He can provide some insight on how Ira feels? It could also help with accepting his own Shadow.

Plotting for Ellana

[personal profile] lostwisdom 2016-11-09 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ellana is definitely one of my more trickier muses to figure out, personally. However, she always took a more sympathetic and strong-willed approach to life and the things that have come her way. Always shown mercy towards her captives.

Her Calamity Self is anything but, knowing she was far too lenient on those who treated her fellow mages like tools for a war she fought desperately to undermine. Even though the war is mainly targeting the very people who have wronged her own kind for centuries... since the fall of their empire, in fact.

How she wants this all to end, so she can return to a simple life, perhaps even find Solas once more and wander the Fade with him, seeking spirits of wisdom and knowledge. Yet that's all it ever will be: a dream. She'd only have two years to continue her life's work (a fate forced upon her for being in the wrong place at the wrong time), before the green mark on her left hand will have killed her. She knows this. Her advisors knew this. Yet why does she hesitate to tell her new friends~?

Truth is, she has little to no respect for humans and their politics, yet so long as the music plays... she dances. Just as Asha'belannar does. As they all do. There is only death on this journey, this dance they all perform. Whether it is only she who perishes on the Din'anshiral, or everyone else as well.

Of course, she won't find it easy to accept this part of her, and it isn't as though she made close friends here like she had back in Thedas. So if any will join her, most of this will likely come as a shock. She always was more merciful and polite in front of them, after all.

Re: Plotting for Ellana

[personal profile] sesenta 2016-11-10 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Which do you prefer, Akane or Rialynn? Because both would probably work out really well for helping her face stuff. Akane is the housemate who likely knows her better (even if we handwave most stuff), but Rialynn also has issues with non-human races scaring her so she's more sympathetic to that and might learn something in return.

There are some connections between them, such as the hidden wish to be acknowledged for their efforts. It will depend also if Sephiroth is there with Ales for the Shadow event.

Lan's dudes

[personal profile] red_planet_blues 2016-11-10 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know who I'm doing first yet, but I'm definitely forcing all three guys through this.

Sparks will have a Shadow that is just ALL EMOTIONS ALL THE TIME. Just big reactions to everything. A lot of it through the lenses of a sniveling nerdy teenager, too, even though he'll look like current adult Sparks. Sparks is going to haaaaate this. It's probably going to have a hard time accepting it.

Johnny has a Shadow that I have to somehow not make Rated X. His Shadow self is basically his demon side to the extreme. It's the side of him he desperately tries to avoid, but ends up falling into fighting and drinking and losing his temper. The Shadow side relishes in violence and hedonism, and won't hesitate to bully and fight everyone. It's a cover for a lot of despair: he's an abomination, feared by humans, hated by demons and angels, and destined for Hell. So why not do whatever the fuck you want? Johnny is going to have a hard time accepting this. It'll probably come down to a fight. A really tough one.

Ed will have the least trouble accepting his Shadow side. In the last few years he's had a lot of time to think and reflect on his actions (thanks, prison time). His Shadow is more conniving and backstabby than he was in his youth. He's greedy, overconfident and selfish, will be totally unwilling to help anyone. Ed is resigned, though, and may accept this faster than the other guys.

Plotting for Rialynn

[personal profile] rialynn 2016-11-10 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Shadow Plotter: Rialynn Kollmann
Preferred Participants: K'pandolu, Vincent Valentine, Ellana, Ramza Beoulve, Duster...pretty much anyone she's got CR with, or people who want CR with her.
What to Expect: I'm thinking her shadow self would be exceptionally passionate and theatrical about it, telling of her cravings for adventure, to be a hero alongside of her friends instead of just a spectator, and throwing her hand to her forehead to declare just how much she wants to live out a legendary romance of her very own. So if Ramza is there, her shadow will definitely turn Disney Princess eyes at him. Overall, this shadow showdown will be more comical than heavy, and Rialynn will be more than embarrassed trying to make it shut up, so a monster fight is very likely.

Plotting for Ramza and Santa

[personal profile] zodiac_brave 2016-11-10 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ramza's shadow is going to be a tough one to defeat, and if he doesn't go in with support, he might perma-die. His is going to be dealing with issues of faith and whether the world is worth fighting to save.

Ramza's shadow will be open to any CR, and it will probably tarnish the golden boy image he has.

Aoi/Santa's shadow will focus on resentment and his desire to live his own life separate from taking care of his sister. He is not going to want to accept it. He will definitely have a hard time without Akane and Duster present. Anyone else who wants to be there is welcome as well Aoi will hate that they will see that part of himself, but it'll be good for him in the long run.

Akane will be there for Aoi. There will probably be a lot of tears, but she'll set him free. And later maybe he can come back and say there's room in his life for the both of them and they can go back to being BFF siblings.

Rialynn would gladly go with Ramza. If he shared his file with her, she can tell him there's nothing that will come up that would shock her how bad could it be laugh laugh laugh. ................Oh. But yeah, she'll back him up to the end.

Plotting for Deadpool, Sonic and Twilight Sparkle

[personal profile] unalive_them 2016-11-10 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Deadpool's Shadow represents who he used to be - a complete nutcase who had no qualms about killing people. Deadpool's spent the year+ trying to be a hero and it's gotten worse and worse to not be who he usually is. This is made even more apparent with the pacifist-based heroes like Ramza and Jack (re: essentially anyone who's been all "WE HAVE TO SAVE EVERYONE NO QUESTIONS ASKED!").

Deadpool's Shadow will gladly go hunt down these people and murderate them. What may be worse is that Deadpool may join his Shadow in the murderating.

Someone might be needed to reign them in, but there's easily the risk of perma-death.

Sonic's Shadow is THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM representing Sonic's desire to get away from the leash he's been put on by being a Hero of Light. He's tired of going slow, being careful, not jumping in and beating people up and saving the day and being forced to hold back with the other heroes BECAUSE THIS IS NOT WHO I AM okay i'll stop

Anyone's welcome to jump in here.

Twilight's Shadow represents not only Twilight's incredible OCDness, but also her frustration towards the heroes and their ideals, especially those who like to boast how they're superior to her because of them. She'll also be confronting the fact that, just perhaps, she's not always right.

Naminé

[personal profile] redigere 2016-11-10 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Naminé's Calamity self will...actually be pretty easy for her to accept. She had a long, lonely year to come to terms with everything that happened in Castle Oblivion (allowing herself to be manipulated, harming Sora and Riku Replica/Ira, Sora choosing to forget), and then a lot of time on the run after leaving DiZ to think about her role in her friends' stories as well.

SO. While her Calamity self can try to throw some shade at her about her guilt, her loneliness, her status as Kairi's lesser half, and how she essentially doesn't exist in her original world anymore--

Naminé had pretty much accepted all of that already before getting here, and she might only need some gentle encouragement, which would be absolutely open to new CR to offer! <3

Her Calamity self will probably mention her insecurities about not knowing anything Sora and Ira have clearly gone through, but that could be defeated with simple "yeah but you can just wait for them to tell you" logic.

Otherwise, she'll be doing her best to try and provide assistance elsewhere, so if you'd like her to help or hinder your own characters' efforts, I'M VERY DOWN FOR THAT.

I will poke other people on here in like, forty minutes, I promise.

Shadow Plotter: Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear
Preferred Participants: Castmates and Yuri are for sure a go, but anyone who's already got positive CR (or wants CR with her) is very welcome to join.
What to Expect: Natalia is going to be one of the first to give this a shot, since she's so gung ho about her responsibilities and wanting to help people, so she likely won't know what to expect. What she'll wind up facing is the person she could have been if her mother had actually kept her, and there will be a lot of repressed anger and resentment. Shadow Plotter: Lust
Preferred Participants: Mikleo and Flynn. I don't know if anyone else would even care, but if for some crazy reason that sounds fun to you, I'll take it!
What to Expect: Lust's experience will absolutely result in a monster fight, so be aware. Her shadow's going to reveal what Lust has subconsciously suspected for a while: that she already IS human and has to actually practice having those positive qualities she wants so badly. They're not going to come from some magic stone. She'll vehemently reject this and insist that the shadow is lying. So there will be a fight. If you want her involved in your character's shadow, let me know, because as soon as Lust is finished with hers she's going to withdraw for a while as she'll have a lot to think about.

Preferred Participants: She won't want anyone there to witness whatever buried shame she has. So she won't tell anyone except Aoi, and even then she'll ask him to let her do this alone because she isn't sure what's going to happen or what her subconscious will say.
What to Expect: She wishes she'd never been born, and didn't deserve to be saved if she put the people she loved most into a situation where they would (and did, in some realities) die horribly. So she won't turn into a monster, because she'll have no choice but to accept that she's seriously screwed up and terrible. It will be sad.

Plotting for Mirai

[personal profile] unpleasanthemokinesis 2016-11-10 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
So, she will most likely jump on this as soon as she figures out her new waterbending skills. Chances are she won't tell anyone because Mirai tends to try to take things on alone all of the time and because she won't feel like she knows anyone well enough to ask. Basically people get to force themselves on her! Hurray!

Anyway her Shadow won't be extremely difficult to face emotionally. Mirai has already done a lot of self-forgiveness for a lot of the things she felt guilty over. Mostly this will be a straight-up fight with very little talking but it may mention a few things about her past if anyone is curious to find out about her. Like how she's from a cursed bloodline or how she has nothing to go back to (that she knows of) and that the guy she loves will never see her again. Or how she feels that no one likes her.

It will be no problem for her to accept her Shadow in the end because she was already well on her way to accepting all of this to start with so expect no trouble at the end..

So Chrom is the one I RNG'd to meet Mirai in the intro post, but I'm willing to offer up any of my characters to lend her a hand if you prefer CR with someone else! I've got Akane Kurashiki, Lust, Natalia, Rukia, and Rialynn. ...I wouldn't recommend Lust just yet, she's still blunt and selfish. But hey, that's what some people enjoy, so whatever you like!

Plotting for Sora

[personal profile] skyofreverie 2016-11-10 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
He will put off fighting his for as long as possible, honestly. Sora actually has a pretty good idea of what he's going to be up against when he goes to do this -- having lived through a Persona-Shadow event back in one of his other games -- and knows he is not in a good place to accept all the crap that's about to be piled on to him. And Sora will absolutely be asking for help. Like POSTING TO THE MOOGLENET ASKING FOR HELP because he does not feel like he will be able to beat this on his own.

Sora's Shadow will definitely be talkative, trying to crush Sora emotionally rather than physically. He will mention a loooot of traumatic things that have happened to him that will involve - clones, deaths of friends, loss of family, various types of mutilation and poke as his self-worth, self-identity and other possibly triggery things. So any who get involved may want to consider this fact. I know Ira, Naminé, Vanitas and Mikleo were all going to be part of this but honestly - I would accept more because Sora may become outright useless depending on how well people can snap him out of it.

He will have trouble accepting his Shadow because Sora is a Broken man. There may be the possibility of him being possessed by his Shadow at least once before he accepts it.

Plotting for Saori

[personal profile] needsteaplz 2016-11-11 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
When you live to nearly 100 years old like Saori, there's a ton of skeletons in your closet.

Even though it's been decades, she still thinks she's the worst sister after her brother went missing and how much his last words to her stung her. Taking care of others to her is easier than taking care of herself in her opinion.

She often wonders if her open marriage was a selfish decision on her part. She also deliberately hides her goddess identity because she's afraid of the possible rejection from others/they might get the idea she's too good for them. Yes, the Shadow will out her goddess identity.

After nearly losing Mary twice in two months, she's so afraid of losing anymore of her loved ones. She is willing to pay any price to make sure they will stay safe and hopefully won't be brought in by a possible future cycle. Knowing she can't fully control them however, it renders her helpless.

Her Shadow is not interested in hurting her physically though. She may strike Saori or anyone that gets too close, but it'll be pretty light damage.

Plotting for K'pandolu

[personal profile] unyieldingspirit 2016-11-12 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
K'pandolu won't be super eager to face her Calamity self, but she wouldn't refuse to entirely. It… could be a fight, or it could be a lot of yelling- I'd been putting her Shadow as less interested in hurting her friends, instead wanting to keep them.

Themes, um. K'pandolu kind of resents Crytallis a lot! That valve is somewhat eased up on with the whole Soulcage fight, but it's still something she doesn't bring up so much. And presumably- on the assumption they can go home if they want to- K'pandolu will be going home to more difficulties, including fighting, and trying to work out a way to avoid some future stuff. And- well, she's done such a fantastic job of protecting her friends here… She misses them hard, and also seeing other miqo'te around.

Also: the weight of a legacy- being a Warrior of Light in Eorzea, and what that might mean for her- beyond the fighting, of course. Those who stood against Dalamud were forgotten- who's to say that might not happen again? She wanted to make a name for herself- but is this way what she'd really wanted?

I feel as though balance could also get a mention- fights being continual- but for her point right now, that's… probably not as much of a consideration (couple of conversations here and there). In any case, she should be fairly up for company for this.

Plotting for Lydia

[personal profile] deadlyvu 2016-11-13 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
So, Crystallis has not been kind to Lydia. As found out in the 'bad' future-vision, where she went full-out-nihilist to destroy everything.

Things she's repressing:
- That this fight really is hopeless
- That she can try all she wants, but she'll always end up alone.
- That she misses her home, and her friends, and her family.
- That she is in over her head, and has no clue what she's doing.
- That she really is just an ordinary little girl--nothing special or worth much.

Things she fears/hides:
- She's ordinary and shallow. I mean really, what if her interest in the dark and spooky is just a facade?
- That she might be a bully, pulling her friends along to do what she thinks is fun, whether they want to or not.
- That she is useless, ultimately. She talks big, but what does it really matter? She's always relied on her best friend's magic to get out of trouble.
- That she'll never be the (step)daughter Delia wants her to be. Does she even want to? Delia is a flake, and status-seeker. Her father is a coward and neurotic to an extreme, and maybe it's Lydia's fault.

Overall her 'fight' is likely to be very mean-girl-esque and discussion based. Rejection is high, if Lydia is left to face it on her own. On the other hand, since one of the things she's repressing is her fear of BEING alone, and being useless by herself, how helpful can her friends BE?
