Event: Doppelgangers (2)

This post contains information for you to play out the Doppelgangers Event. Aside from the information contained in this post, anyone who signed-up will receive a notice with specific details regarding the characters they will play in the event. We will not be modding the event, but with this and the notices, you should have enough to play all the scenes. Feel free to use this post for plotting things out, and should you have any questions, ask them in the appropriate thread!

Some things will be common knowledge for these precursor Heroes of Light. For the most part, they know the same things are the current Heroes and are familiar with Moogles, Airships, Crystals, etc. But there are quite a few differences. Furthermore, all of their crystals are either Blue or Black (black if they died numerous times).

• The Heran
This is how the Ancients were called before they went extinct. Their homeworld was called "Hera" and they moved to Crystallis a very long time ago. However, none of these precursors Heroes seem to have ever met an Ancient. Indeed, Ancients were already extinct back then, and they had been for thousands of years already. Like the current Heroes, they've been told of the legends about how Heroes of Light once defeated the Calamity from the Skies and how everyone expects them to do it once again.

• The Network and Job Switching
These precursor Heroes don't have a Moogle following them everywhere they go. Instead, to switch Jobs they use machines similar to the ones that could be found in the Heran Research Center. For communication purposes, Mognet does exist but the Heroes rarely use it. Instead they use their own crystals: they form a network through which they can speak to each other and even send holographic projections.

• The Deadline
The Calamity is awakened and attacking Crystallis: it slowly crystallizes the entire planet in order to destroy it. However, it happens at a much faster rate than it does in the present era: the deadline before Crystallis is lost is of thirty days, even though the crystallization process barely began. All Heroes of Light have already been in Crystallis for years at this point; some for only a few years, others for as much as ten years. As such, they all have maxed Jobs and much greater knowledge than the current generation of Heroes. By the time of the dream, there are a couple thousands of Heroes of Light, but the vast majority of them are in Crystal Stasis.

• The Temple of Water
It is what serves as the base of the Heroes of Light in this era; however, the city of Flence doesn't exist at all. They used to have help like the current generation of Heroes, but there are no longer any NPCs similar to Biggs, Wedge and Jessie left to help them, so they are entirely on their own when it comes as to what to do, etc. There are people left in the various cities, but for the most part they're panicked or hiding as the world is about to end. People in Crystallis are Human, Moogles, Hypello and Tarutaru, but there are also a few different species, though none will be shown in the dream.

• Death
Death used to be a slap on the wrist like for the current Heroes. But it is now very real: whenever a Hero die, they remain dead and there is no using life or a phoenix down on them.

There are two sorts of dreams: a dream in common that will be open to everyone, and smaller dreams focused on particular groups. These smaller dreams are where actual scenarios will happen.

COMMON DREAM (MINGLE)
Everyone

This dream takes place in the Temple of Water and is open to all characters. There is no particular storyline to this dream, but all characters are aware of the thirty days deadline to stop the Calamity and are about to leave for their quests. They can start hearing the thoughts of the dreaming character, which may lead to particularly awkward moments.

GROUP A (THE DISSENSIONS)
Johnny D'Amico >> Esteban
Kenshin >> Kenshin
Mary Read >> Haytham Kenway
Owain >> Edward
Saori Nakagawa >> Kenichi Inari
Sora >> Roxas
Zell Dincht >> Squall Leonhart

The dream begins as the characters in this group hurriedly run across a bridge in what happens to be an Ancient facility, very advanced technologically but in ruins— Nearly as though it has been abandoned for a very long time. Unfortunately, the bridge collapses just as part of the group makes it, and thus half of the group is lost. Among the casualties are Johnny D'Amico, Mary Read, Kamiya Kaoru, Saori Nakagawa and Xion. Edward manages to make it, but only due to the sacrifice of his friend, Leonardo. Roxas is saved in-extremis by Squall. In spite of the tragic losses, Haytham presses on as they have to continue if they are to find what they need to defeat the Calamity in time. However, Kenshin seems to have reasons to believe Haytham purposefully set up the bridge to break, so as to kill potential enemies he saw in these Heroes of Light…

GROUP B (THE HACKING)
Bloom >> Daphne
Chiaki Nanami >> Chihiro Fujisaki
Lydia Deetz >> Jacques LaLean
Manami Sangaku >> Fukutomi Juichi
Nanami Kiryuu >> Nanami Kiryuu
Ryoji Kaji >> Asuka Langley Sohryu
Valvalis >> Sandy Magus

The dream begins with the characters in this group running into a large room in an Ancient facility— The very same facility Group A was in, though probably not at the same time as there are enemies this time around: crystalline entities attacking them. More than that, these crystalline enemies seem to have the shape of people they are familiar with. Noticeably, those leading the charge are replica of Cindy, Ryoji Kaji, Queen Marion and Kinjou Shingo. And behind them are many more, all looking like various people from their homeworlds. Nanami will be grievously wounded upon entering the room, while Chihiro and Jacques will have to hurry to reactivate the computer in this room and hopefully find what they came for. Hoping that the others can hold off the crystalline entities until it is done…

GROUP C (THE BETRAYAL)
Cloud (young) >> Cloud (old)
Red Plains Rider >> Croach the Tracker
Selen >> Ishtar
Sephiroth (good) >> Sephiroth (evil)
Tazendra >> Vlad Taltos
Terra >> Terra (esper)
Tifa (old) >> Tifa (young)

The dream begins as the characters in this group just defeated a crystalline entity referred to as a "Calamity Spawn" in a fully crystallized cave. In the background, said cave is filled with crystallized Heroes of Light. There are a couple non-player Heroes in this group, and Cloud is missing as the dream begins. As soon as the Spawn is defeated however, Sephiroth suddenly switches allegiances and slays the non-player characters Selen and Tazendra before anyone can react. He then manages to throw and kill another such character, Celes Chere, in a surprise attack. Croach is attacked as well, but manages to avoid the attack right in time, thanks to his abilities. The betrayal comes as a surprise considering Sephiroth seemed fairly "good" up till now, but he reveals that he never had any intention to allow them to stop the Calamity. Battle ensues...

GROUP D (THE ENEMY WITHIN)
Ales Mansay >> Rayman
Doki Makoto >> Bayushi Kwanchai
Doug >> Ventuswill
Gaara >> Gaara
Logen >> Bayaz
Meredy >> Shizel
Ramza Beoulve >> Dycedarg Beoulve
Yugi Mutou >> Dark Yugi

The dream begins as the characters in this group wander around in a fully crystallized cave. In the background, said cave is filled with crystallized Heroes of Light, like the cave Group C was in. This particular group however is looking for a special crystal— According to Intel from Gaara, Ventuswill and Dark Yugi, should they find and destroy it, the power of the Calamity would be lowered. Together with the efforts of every other group, they hope this will make the task possible. Bayaz is missing as the dream begins. Unfortunately, Dycedarg seizes the Crystal before Rayman and Bayushi can, revealing his true intention before being contaminated by the Calamity. He then proceeds to attack everyone in this group…

GROUP E (THE PLAN)
Anise >> Fon Master Ion
Ashelia (post ending) >> Ashelia (pre choice)
Elizabeth >> Igor
Ib >> Ib (bad ending)
Jade Curtiss >> Gelda Nebilim
Luke fon Fabre >> Luke fon Fabre
Olivier Armstrong >> Buccaneer

The dream begins as the characters in this group have a meeting around the Crystal of Fire in the Temple of Fire, with the crystal's light fading. There are no traces of any city outside of the temple, but the horizon is blindingly white and the characters will be aware it is due to the crystallization process having reached nearly all of Crystallis. Nebilim advocates that they have no choice but to follow "the plan" they came up with together, and give a chance to the next Heroes of Light. Ion and Ib side with her and agree that this is the only reasonable solution. Luke and Buccaneer are pretty loud about this being stupid and will advocate trying to defeat the Calamity and kill Garland; especially as it seems following the plan involves all of them dying alongside their homeworlds. The nature of the plan will remain unclear, but it seems to be the only chance they have to ultimately defeat the Calamity and save the entirety of the worlds, even if it means having to sacrifice themselves. Ashelia and Igor will be undecided. There is an eight Hero of Light among them looking like the spitting image of Kalki, who will be siding with the plan of Nebilim, Ib and Ion.

GROUP F (THE OTHER WAY)
Ameena Leffeld >> Sophia Esteed
Daisy >> Librarian
Fayt Leingod >> Faize
Hilda >> Ganondorf
Nel Zelpher >> Blair
SS Link >> First Link
Zelda >> Hylia

The dream begins with Hylia, Link, Faize and Sophia going through an Ancient facility; however this one is in a much better state than the one previously mentioned. It looks either recently built or very well preserved, and more importantly, it seems to be on one of the moons. Indeed, looking through the windows will give a clear view of space and of a planet: Crystallis. The planet is half-crystallized at this point. They are after Ganondorf, Blair and the Librarian, who are about to execute a plan of theirs, which they believe should save everyone's homeworld and put an end to that masquerade. However, the four Heroes are not entirely reassured as to the efficiency of this plan, let alone the intentions of those conducting said plan…

GROUP G (THE END)
Asbel Lhant >> Prince Richard
Bartz >> Onion Knight
Jack Harkness >> Gwen Cooper
K'pandolu Tohka >> Thancred
Markus Haley >> Chelsea Haley
Rikku (FFX) >> Rikku (FFX-2)
Yuna >> Yunalesca

This dream begins with Onion Knight and Rikku smashing against a wall following the attack of a man wearing a black armor. There are a lot of other Heroes of Light in the large and dark room this dream takes place in, but they are all dead. Only Richard, Gwen, Thancred and Chelsea are still alive, but barely so. The only Hero of Light unharmed is Yunalesca, and for good reason as she stands by the man in black armor and watched as he slaughtered said Heroes…

Upon waking up from their dreams, characters who participated in the event will have received a letter from Kalki, with an address. This address may be anywhere in Aqures Ixen, Flence, Esdham, Trano Golsaucia, Balicea or Aerilon. The address and location is unique to every character, and so each of them will find something different upon going there. We will post this week-end on Mognet what your characters will find, should they go ahead and check said address.

I'm just going to use this journal with a in-post icon, because I have enough trouble finding icons of book characters I play regularly. (At least Vlad is a bloody protagonist.)

Vlad (Assassin!) will go with one of two plans. his goals are to keep his skin intact: in the short term, that means surviving the battle, but in the long term, he knows he's got to deal with Sephiroth or at least get a message to the other Heroes. He's been suspicious of Sephiroth, but never had anything to pin him on.

So, I can see two plans:

1. Get out of sight, wait until the other Heroes have distracted him, then go for the throat with a knife (or powers). Possibly while using the ninja powers to create a Vlad-clone to confuse the issue. This one, I confess, is less fun for me. And Tazendra will be urging Vlad to stop running away, the coward, even if Vlad doesn't see it like that.

2. Fake being swayed by Sephiroth, then wait for a chance to surprise him with powers or a knife. This does mean more roleplaying, which I like, and has Tazendra confused enough that she might not try to influence Vlad at first. Having her in his head probably will make things difficult, since they have opposing world views. Basically, Vlad has made concealing his strength a virtue in canon.

A lot will depend on if Sephiroth tries to exert influence over Vlad or just goes into Boss Battle Mode.

Okay, so Nanami entered Crystallis very young and her home life wasn't the best, so a lot of her canon clingyness over her brother has transferred to the Heroes collectively. She's starting out wounded (and has probably been 'the kid' in a lot of Heroes' minds, even if she's now about her canon age), but she's going to try to fight. (Ironically, present!Nanami will be telling her to quit it and stop trying to be a hero.)

Heya! This is Cherry (I usually play [personal profile] pactfulfilled). Since it's been a few years and he'd have aged beyond a kidlet, I'll be using this journal for Richard. (The other is too smiley for the event anyway.)

Richard is a max level Swordmaster which doesn't exist in the game yet but it gives him "swordsmanship above nearly everyone else and makes him a very strong character in the battle". However, his two most precious people are among the dead bodies in the room and that means he can pretty much swing one of two ways - avenging their deaths with his final breaths or giving up since the world is going to be destroyed anyway and death is imminent. (He doesn't want to die...)

He can definitely be reasoned with, and can be convinced to participate in a plan (ie. to try to get Yunalesca to aid them, etc) or to initiate a group attack. Asbel in his head will be trying his darndest to get Richard to fight and not give up hope (even though he's laying there dead, so how Richard takes that I'm not really sure yet).

If anyone wants more specific details of what the mod team sent me, I can provide them. :3b

Is there anything in particular we have to do if we're using a different journal for our dream character? Or do we just go ahead and reply with the journal?

There has already been one request for "Please have Asuka scream at my character until they cry." Anyone else? Hey, Nanami, how are we gonna put these two in the same room and not have it explode?

[personal profile] demiurging 2015-04-18 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, for the benefit of the others in this group who can't see the Plurk where I asked that:

At some point (or perhaps the entire time, depending on how this shakes down), I want to have Asuka yelling at / berating Chihiro to make faster with the nerd stuff to the point where she breaks down at the computer and starts to cry. That's when Chiaki, who will otherwise mostly be silently observing her predecessor, will intervene by helpfully humming the Tetris theme to help with concentration and drowning out distractions.

Haha, unfortunately I haven't played FFX, so I'm not really familiar with the character. Basically I was planning to just play it by ear.

A likely angle is the 'We have to stop the calamity from spreading any farther. Maybe we can't save ourselves or this world, but at least we can give future heroes of light a chance to succeed.'

Because in the info I got, it was implied that while they are doomed, defeating Garland would at least give future heroes a better chance. They didn't mention how, but honestly it's better than nothing.

My character will be hacking away at enemies to give the computer hackers a chance! Fukutomi here is maxed Wizard (red mage+warrior)

I'm up for working together with another one of the fighters to get some dialogue going, especially if you want to trade opponents. (Because even if you know it's not true, who wants to kill someone you respect?)

They picked the right people for this, but I'm not as familiar with Yunalesca as a character? Gwen would be trying to appeal to her humanity, but is that the wrong kind of tactic to take?

Either way, Gwen is a Magiteck Knight/Gunner, can use all the Gunner abilities through her gunblade, I'd never thought of this, but it's a pretty good combo when I look at it.

Plotting: Group G

[personal profile] shallow_cleverness 2015-04-18 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
If they can convince Yunalesca to join them and all rally for one more big attack, they may be able to defeat Garland. So the Onion Knight is going to be pushing pretty hard for everyone to stand up just one more time and give it everything they've got.

Defeating Garland may not save them or the world they're in, but if it stops him from destroying any other worlds or even hinders his plans at all, it's better than nothing. Of course, it would also be too much to just let Garland get away with this scot free. The Onion Knight has way too much pride for that.

[personal profile] umslay 2015-04-18 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Rayman's a Monk (max) + Custom Job, with a unique fighting style revolving around the fact that he has not limbs, and his entire body is held together thanks to Video Game Magic. He'll be set on getting to the Crystal and fighting enemies right away once he hears about the intel, though he'll need some motivation to stay on task.

He's a friendly, if a bit simple, hero, and he's a laid-back guy and probably get along with most of the group.

Re: Plotting: Group G

[personal profile] majesticgate 2015-04-18 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, and that kind of mentality would definitely strike a chord with Richard (his friends are pretty much the same, "never give up!" and all). Between hope for other worlds and worlds where the other heroes might still exist, and considering how violently strongly he tried to avenge his father's death in his canon, I think we can definitely get him to cooperate in this.

THE FINAL LIBERATOR, YUNALESCA.

[personal profile] finalsummoning 2015-04-18 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
HELLO, VICTIMS.

Unfortunately for all of you -- Yunalesca is a very tough nut to crack and convince that her way isn't the right way. In true FFX form, Yuna and her guardians tried to do just that, trying to find a better way for a better future, and that ended in a big ole Medusa head sprouting from the ground and zombie-inducing snake bites for everyone.

FORTUNATELY FOR YOU... Yuna is locked away inside there somewhere! Her views and thoughts and feelings are in direct opposition with Yunalesca's, so your attempts to appeal to the greater good might just ring true with her instead.

However........ there is a good chance this will lead to a battle. Yunalesca will consider herself your "final liberator" and try to free you from your sorrow... by killing you dead. :3c

If there are any questions you have for her character in particular or her abilities, I'll do my best to answer them!

Heya :D, due to events in ffx Rikku wouldn't waste her time trying to persuade yunalesca to help and would probably try to convince others not to waste their time on a lost cause.

Re: THE FINAL LIBERATOR, YUNALESCA.

[personal profile] shallow_cleverness 2015-04-18 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
The Onion Knight will only fight against her if he has to. He'll put a lot of his initial focus into convincing her(or maybe just Yuna inside her) to stand with the heroes one last time.

But, if all else fails, he won't shie away from the fight either. It's not like he has anything to lose by trying to take on both of them. tl;dr- he won't give up either way.

Really, I'm fine with however everyone would prefer this to go. The choice is really between the bleak, tragic ending and the... slightly less bleak, marginally more hopeful ending. I don't actually know if it will make a difference in the grand scheme of things for the game.

I think their best bet is actually to appeal to Yuna inside her. It seems like they might have to fight her in either case.

My bad I overlooked that my first read through, (are we aware there are other dreamers inside to appeal to?) but she would still think it was a lost cause because it was tried before. She might try to use what she knew of Yunalesca's twisted philosophy to get her to fight Garland.

NEVERMIND I MISREAD THAT. IGNORE ALL THAT. LONG DAY.

ANYWAY. I could see Richard trying to reason with her (as others have said), although it would depend on how well that goes in general as to how long he actually keeps it up before shifting his attention back to Garland (or fighting Yunalesca if she starts trying to kill them all dead, obviously).

ONLY AFTER HE AVENGES HIS FRIENDS' DEATHS CAN HE BE FREED FROM SORROW!!...except it really won't make him feel any better haha. :/

No, I'm pretty sure they have no idea about that. I just meant that they might get lucky on that front.

But hey, if Rikku knows something they could use to convince her, Onion Knight will be all over taking advantage of it.

Re: THE FINAL LIBERATOR, YUNALESCA.

[personal profile] shallow_cleverness 2015-04-18 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think they have any idea that the dreamers exist. They might suspect something weird is going on in their own head, and I suppose they could conjecture that other heroes might be in a similar predicament, but I imagine that's it.

They might still get lucky though and get help from Yuna even if they don't know she's there.

And yeah, if it all goes south, Onion Knight will still fight with everything he has. (I'm especially curious to find out what Melodies of Life actually does.)

On another note, it was mentioned in my info that they're injured enough to use limit breaks. So that might help.
