Event: The Festival of Light

Once again, Aqures Ixen is home to the Festival of Light. And as it might very well be the last one—Either before the end of the world or before the beginning of a new era, the people of Aqures Ixen and those who came from all over the world are going all out. They have been informed by the authorities that it is too dangerous to have festivities happening on the final day; therefore the attractions will all be available at some point before the meeting with Palitutu. Nevertheless, in spite of the joy and happiness, it will be evident enough most adults are very anxious and scared for the future.
The Festival of Light runs ICly from the 27th to the 03rd of August, but you are free to start playing it now! This Festival is held specifically to celebrate the defeat of the Calamity two thousand years ago.
Feel free to ask any questions! Furthermore, you can use this post to plot out. If you want to add your own little attraction or the likes, go ahead! The next part of the Anniversary Event, the meeting with Palitutu, will be posted prior to the end of the month. Also, participating in the Festival of Light will provide a Triple Exp bonus for the month of July.
SUMMER CHRISTMAS
— Ninth District || July 29th – August 02nd || 07:00 to 19:00 —
Did you think because it’s summer, you could escape the beauty and magnificence of the Starlight Celebration? Think again. The Moogles in charge of the Village of Santa Claus have occupied half of the Ninth District, along with some of the people who sought refuge in their village. Decorated trees, Christmas music, people dressed as Santa Claus and half-dying because of the heat, fake gift boxes as well as a very large and pretty box for donations all await you in this district. Kids below the age of 15 will all receive a gift if they come, whether it is a carved Kupo Nut, a toy Dragoon Spear or a figure shaped as one of the (former) leaders of the Empire, laughing evilly when you push its stomach. Who doesn’t want a Kurma or Kalki doll after all? And of course for you adults don’t forget the donation box.
You don’t plan on donating? Shame on you.
MYSIDIAN DISCOVERY
— Second District || July 27th – August 03rd || 10:00 to 23:00 —
Have you heard of Mysidia yet? This fantastic city that used to be cut from the rest of the world until the Enterprise allowed the Heroes of Light to reach the Continent of Ruins. The city is famous for its magic, for its skilled crafters, for its mysterious sage and for… Its video games. All can be discovered in the second district, which has been invaded by Elezen, Primal Moogles and Bangaa. The later are not actual monsters and the former are not actual elves—Please don’t insult them by mistaking them as such. There may also be a few Moomba that followed them, and that will follow you if you stick around too long.
MIDNIGHT AIRSHIP
— Twelfth District || July 30th – August 01st || 23:00 to 06:00 —
For the late sleepers, it is possible to board the special airship prepared by Shoopuf Airline to party up in the sky. It’s been a tradition of the Festival of Light since Airships became a thing, and for the first time the Heroes of Light will be able to take part in it. Whether they want to dance, to eat or to enjoy the view, it might be a very fun and relaxing activity. It is also a very good place from where to watch the fireworks… Or to scout for an incoming Tarutaru and her weapon toy.
Note that all the personnel onboard are Hypellos. While they are very serviceable and nice, they can try the patience of those not used to their accent.
MOOGLE EXPOSITION
— Ninth District || July 27th – August 03rd || Anytime —
The half of the Ninth District not occupied by the Moogles from the Village of Santa Claus is occupied by the Moogles from Mognet Central. Come and visit the exposition to discover the rich and amazing culture of the Moogles! Kupo Nuts, Fur Dye, Fake Kupo Nuts, Pom Shiner, Carved Kupo Nuts, Mognet Bags, Deluxe Kupo Nuts, Sheets for Future Strikes, Explosive Kupo Nuts—There is no end to what might be learned from the Moogles! The Moogle Blitzball Team will be there, as well as the leaders of the various Mognet Unions. Come and learn of the wonderful ways Moogles plan together to set up the next strikes to happen when new batches of Kupo Nuts or Fur Dyes are released on the market.
Also on the exposition will be one of the fabled Mognet Machine, which allows for such an efficient mailing system by copying letters as many times as necessary. Born from their common desire to work as little as possible, this machine is their pride and joy.
CHOCOBO RACES
— Aqures Ixen || July 31st || 15:00 to 20: 00 —
A Chocobo Race will be held all around the city, passing by the Chocobo Farm and the Monster Arena. Will you compete? Shall you win? There are no prizes as all the money earned through the race is given to the Safety of Trano Golsaucia movement. Those participating can bring their own Chocobo, or get a temporary one from the people organizing the race. It will be a very bad Chocobo though, so they shouldn’t expect to win… Beware the Hamsters and Marlboro during the race though. It’d be a real shame to end up getting eaten while racing.
MONSTER ARENA
— Fourteenth District || August 01st – August 02nd || Anytime —
The Monster Arena guy and his faithful Moogle companion will be putting for exposition the various monsters captured by the Heroes of Light. How safe it is to parade hungry and deadly monsters in the midst of the city during the festival is questionable. If questioned, the Monster Arena guy will reply he’s brought them to the 14th District exactly so the Heroes of Light could act should anything go wrong. How thoughtful of him!
Either way, it might be fun to see a Marlboro with a giant pink ribbon on its head, a zombie dressed with a full suit or a velociraptor with a top hat… How or why the monster arena guy did it, it’s a secret for everybody.
AQUATIC MINIPARK
— Fifteenth District || July 29th – August 03rd || Anytime —
For the purpose of the festival, the unfinished (and never to be finished) 15th District has been equipped with stuff brought from Trano Golsaucia and also brought by those who fled the County of Flence. Swimming pools, water slides and the likes await you, should you desire to enjoy the summer! It’s not as fun as a true beach, but that should be enough for children to have plenty of fun, or anyone for that matter.
A brigade of Hypello is on the ready to save anyone who shows signs of drowning. Be careful if you try to scare your friends and pretend you’re dying—You might just get dragged by a Hypello eager to save the day (and you).
FISHING COMPETITION
— Fifteenth District || August 01st || 10:00 to 17:00 —
The people who fled Flence have had a hard time adapting to the Village of Santa Claus—Going from extreme heat to extreme cold isn’t easy for everyone. Worst, they can’t do their favorite sport any more there: fishing. Hence why one of the pools in the Water Minipark will be dedicated to a fishing competition on that day. Participate and win... The right to eat a very big fish, maybe. As it is, the poor people don't have anything left to give away as a prize.
BOTANICAL WONDERS
— Third District || July 27th – July 28th || Anytime —
Flowers, their scent, the beauty, the… Bees. People from Balicea, Esdham and Aqures Ixen will show off their most beautiful plants and flowers in the third district for a time. Alas, their exposition will be cut short after too many people will complain about the insects these plants and flowers bring with them. If you are of a mind to enjoy the beauty of these flowers, you should go to the exposition in the briefest delays!
HERAN STAND
— Sixth District || July 27th – August 01st || 12:00 to 22:00 —
The Heran who fled to the Village of Santa Claus have lost more or less everything, and they don’t have much to show. Worse, since they didn’t ask in time, they have no place but the ruins of the sixth district to put their stand. Even worse, the rest of the population isn’t very kind to Herans… Which might be baffling to the Heroes of Light, but not so to the natives of the Continent of Balance as they’ve been at war for the past two decades.
As such, this attraction will be clearly less joyful and much more desolate-looking than any of the other. Still, those passing by, mostly Heroes of Light or people from Mysidia, will be able to see some of the latest Magitek wonders, such as weapons that can attack on their own to assist their allies, medical equipment and a revolutionary invention: the phone. Something that can be held into the palm of the hand and which Heran officers have been using to communicate with ease on the battlefield. If only it could be mass produced…
MINI TRANO GOLSAUCIA
— Eleventh District || July 27th – July 03rd || Anytime —
Specially for the festival, stallholders from Trano Golsaucia traveled to Aqures Ixen and brought a few attractions to display what they can do. Noticeably, there is a shooting stand—Once again, all the targets are vaguely similar to the main antagonists of numbered Final Fantasy games. There is a treasure chest game, where characters are presented with ten chests and can open only one-- Prizes range from one Gils to gigantic plushie. There is also a fortune teller Moogle, the very same one some characters might have met before. He is still predicting to people they will suffer hell or die soon…
With the Calamity growing every day, his claims seem likelier than before. Should someone who met the Moogle before meet him again, he’ll tell them he had warned them they’d suffer hell. That was a safe bet though.
TOURNAMENTS
— Tenth District || July 27th – August 02nd || 10:00/15:00/20:00 —
There is a Blitzball Competition taking place during the Festival of Light! Characters are free to go and watch the matches, so long as they can pay for the tickets. Of course, because the world is about to end doesn’t mean business stops rolling.
At the same time, a Triple Triad competition is taking place. Characters are free to enter the Triple Triad tournament if they so wish. Characters who know Triple Triads have fair chances to win. And even if your characters lose, but what matters is trying, right? There are no prizes to be won, as all money goes to the Safety of Trano Golsaucia movement.
CULINARY ATTRACTIONS
— Eight District || July 30th – August 03rd || 12:00 to 13:30 / 19:00 to 21:00 —
What would a festival be without free food and banquets? Not really a festival. In the fourteenth district, there is a banquet and many stands held by people from all over the world-- People from Balicea, Aerilon, Esdham, etc. All kind of food from all over the world can be found here-- Refined food, pastries, cakes, cooked meals, etc. It's virtually impossible not to find something to like in all of this, and it's all free!
THEATER PLAYS
— Ninth District || July 27th/July 30th/August 02nd || 20:00 —
Three different scenes will be played. On the 27th, the 4 Heroes of Light will be played. The main characters are four Heroes of Light, respectively dressed as a Warrior, Monk, Black Mage and White Mage. Other characters include the Calamity from the Skies played by a silver-haired woman, an Ancient scientist and the Princess of Crystallis. The story appears to be a highly romanticized version of tale of the previous Heroes of Light. As the play unfolds, there is a love story between one of the Heroes of Light, the Warrior, and the Princess of Crystallis. At the end of the play, the Heroes of Light successfully defeat the Calamity from the Skies, but the Warrior has to sacrifice himself and die in order to protect the Princess of Crystallis.
On the 30th, an Opera version of the play is being played, called the 12 Heroes of Light. The story is roughly the same, but in this version the Scientist’s obsession with the Calamity causes the Warrior to die, and as a consequence the Princess commits suicide. A thirteenth Hero of Light is alluded to, but never shows up. Finally on the 02nd, the 100 Heroes of Light is played. This version of the play actually recounts the Battle of Aqures Ixen from last year, with various actors playing the various Heroes of Light. The Scientist from the Ancients is replaced by someone playing Kalki, whereas the Princess of Crystallis is missing from this.
FIREWORKS
— First District || 27th July – 02nd August || Midnight —
Fireworks will be launched from the Castle of Aqures Tosf starting 00:00 and will end at 01:00, everyday of the Festival. No matter where you are in the city, anyone should be able to watch them with ease if they so wish. Unfortunately, it means falling asleep before midnight may be a bit hard with all the noise.
The Festival of Light runs ICly from the 27th to the 03rd of August, but you are free to start playing it now! This Festival is held specifically to celebrate the defeat of the Calamity two thousand years ago.
