Player Plot: The Crystal Caves!
It's time to explore the caves beneath the Crystal Life Tree and see if we can't make it down to the planet's core! It's only 4000 miles down or so, what could go wrong?
The exploration takes place between the 10th and 16th. Jade will have recruited people in the past few days, so feel free to handwave your character getting involved. A log will go up on Monday, but you can keep signing up -- there's no deadline. Under the cut is an outline of how the log's going to be structured!
1) A Dangerous Journey
This is a general thread for everyone to set up their top-comments, whether it's to mingle or pick fights. As you may know, the Crystal Caves are a maze-like system that extends all over the planet. The Heroes' objective is to keep heading down as far as they can. Use the information below to play out the exploration to your hearts' content!
Near the surface
In the early trek, the caves are straightforward enough. Following monsters can be encountered:

(Optional Boss) CALAMITY SPAWN
These monsters can be encountered at player discretion and don't require permission. Feel free to include them in your threads, start top-levels for boss fights and join other people's battles! For the Calamity Spawn, you can use the Sinspawn from FFX as a point of reference.
Deeper down...
As the Heroes make their way down, mist will begin to appear. The mist is faint and it’s fairly easy to see through it on short distances. For long distances though, it might cloud their view.
In addition, the enemies will become more dangerous from here, as the Heroes have a chance to encounter crystallized versions of the above enemies. These versions are much more powerful at an 11-star rating, equal to T-Rex but below the Hamster, and they have no elemental weaknesses. The odds of running into one of these monsters are around 1/5.
If combat isn't your thing, not to worry! As I said, this part can also be used for general mingling as the Heroes traverse the caves and set camp. Feel free to give multiple prompts for various situations throughout the exploration.
2) Signs of the Old Cycles
This one is a group thread, taking place as the Heroes start getting deeper and deeper under the planet's surface. There are some discoveries to make, so I'll be modding this one. Don't be afraid to jump in even if you miss the beginning of the thread!
3) ???
Should we make it far enough, the mod team will take over running the rest of the plot. What could be down there?
Sign-ups are below. You can use this post to ask questions and plot amongst yourselves!

In the early trek, the caves are straightforward enough. Following monsters can be encountered:

SKELETON
✶ ✶ ✶ ✶
Drop: 800 Gil, Fire Crystal (10%)
✶ ✶ ✶ ✶
Drop: 800 Gil, Fire Crystal (10%)
These skeleton are rather weak, even though they attack in group. Their weak attacks and lack of coordination make them easy targets for fighters, even though one should remain careful. Sometimes, the number of skeletons attacking at once can be overwhelming.

ZOMBIE
✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶
Drop: 500 Gil, Darkness Crystal (5%)
✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶
Drop: 500 Gil, Darkness Crystal (5%)
Frightening enemies, Zombies are much smarter than their cousins, the Skeletons. They can zombify their enemies when attacking them, and then grievously harm them by casting potions or heal spells onto them. Thankfully, this weakness applies to them as well: they die very easily when attacked with curative magic.

DRAGON ZOMBIE
✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶
Drop: 10 000 Gil, Elixir (10%)
✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶
Drop: 10 000 Gil, Elixir (10%)
Dragon Zombies are defeated dragons that have refused to move on and return to the First Crystal. Whilst they are as dangerous as their regular counterpart, they are not weak to ice and can inflict status ailments. It is said however, there is a way to instantly kill them...
